UNSTOPPABLE: Serbia won FIBA 3×3 World Cup – AGAIN!

The national team of Serbia, with players Dusan Domovic Bulut, Dejan Majstorovic, Marko Savic and Stefan Stojacic, won the gold medal at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in the Philippines. They defended the title of the 3×3 world champion and once again confirmed that they are absolute rulers of the 3×3 throne. In the finals, Serbia won against the Netherlands with result 16 : 13, interestingly enough these two teams played last year World Cup finals and Serbia won. With 32 points, Bulut took the MVP title.

Serbian national team went to the Philippines with a different roster of players. Serbian Basketball Federation decided to replace Marko Zdero with Stefan Stojacic. But even if he wasn’t with them at the Philippines, Zdero watched every game and was cheering for his teammates.

I watched everything, not just Serbia but other teams as well. I had the impression that I was there with them. We were in touch all the time, exchanging experiences and impressions. I believed and I knew that we would be very good at the World Cup because it is something that I can’t describe. Once you put jersey of Serbia your motivation is 10 times higher. All training and preparations of our team were directed towards the World Cup and from the beginning of the season our goal was to make a good result there. Congratulations to guys for winning the gold medal, and I wish luck to our team Novi Sad Al Wahda in the next part of the 3×3 season – Zdero says.

Let’s see how it all happened. Serbia played its first World Cup game against rivals from the final – the Netherlands and won 21 : 17. After that Serbia won against New Zealand 22 : 13, Romania 21 : 12 and Kyrgyzstan 21 : 9. That was enough for the first place in the pool A, without a single defeat – that was the score for team Serbia till the end of the World Cup.

In the quarterfinals, they defeated Mongolia 21 : 8. The semi-finals with Poland were a real thriller – Poland took the lead, but our team managed to overcome their 7-point difference and till the end of the game the result was equal. Fantastic shot of Dejan Majstorovic for two points sent Serbia straight to the finals with result 21 : 19.

We always play attractive, but I think Dejan’s shot in the semi-finals for the win is something that will be remembered forever – and that is a characteristic of a strong character. The entire team played very well. But I think Dusan stands out, after all, he was the MVP, he played the whole tournament without a mistake. In tough moments, like the semi-finals when things didn’t look very good on the court, as a leader he took the game into his own hands and played smart in every situation – says Zdero.

The Netherlands didn’t have the solution to stop Serbia, so they lost the finals 16 : 13 and had to satisfy with the silver medal – once again. The national team of Slovenia won the bronze medal. This was the third consecutive gold medal for team Serbia, it is our fourth gold medal from the World Cups, the only time we didn’t take the gold was in 2012, but we took silver.
